My vanity is my happy place. It’s the one place in the house that’s all mine *minus a cat or two from time to time.* While most of the time it’s a total mess, or what I like to call “organized chaos”, there are those few moments when everything is in its place. It has taken me about a year to get everything the way I want it right now. There will always be tweeks that are made when new products come in, but the way it’s set up now makes it super easy to get ready in the morning.
I figured the best way to do this, since there is so much to go over, is to break it down picture by picture. I will put links for everything that I can find. That way if you like something you can get it for yourself. Yay!
Like pretty much every other beauty blogger in the world, I have the Malm Dressing Table by Ikea. (link) The design is super sleek, chic, and best of all, easy to take care of! Before the Malm Dressing Table I had a standard black desk from Ikea that I would do my makeup at. After doing my makeup that thing was a total mess. Every speck of makeup would show up on it. Thankfully this table has a glass top that I wipe down daily to keep it looking clean and pretty.
Disclaimer: This is by no means all of my nail polish!!!
It is however a cute way to keep my favorites out and within reach. I tend to change them out from season to season, depending on the color trends. Right now I have all of my favorite glitters out on display. I also have a few of my favorite fashion books under the bowl to add a little height difference on my vanity. Plus, its pretty. *This is where I take most of my blog pictures.*
I’ve found the biggest thing that helps cut down on time in the morning is having my makeup brushes separated. Need a foundation brush? That will be in the cream product brush vase. I know exactly where every brush is and that comes in handy when I’m grabbing stuff for my gym bag at 5 in the morning. The left vase is dedicated to all my powder face brushes, the middle is my cream product face brushes, and the right is all of eye brushes. I got these vases at Ikea, of course, and they were insanely cheap for how heavy duty they are. Next time we go up to Portland I plan on getting a few for around the house. (Link)
Honestly, I am not a fan of this mirror. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great mirror and does its job, but it’s not bright enough for me. I have school on Saturdays and I’m normally up well before Mike is. When doing my makeup I have to open the windows or turn on the over head lights in order to see myself. That’s a problem if I don’t want to be a jerk and wake Mike up. I would prefer to have a mirror that is bright enough for me to clearly see myself and my makeup without adding extra light. If you don’t have to worry about waking up a slumbering boyfriend, I would recommend this mirror. (Link)
I’ve had this white vase for a few years but never used it for anything. When I was reorganizing it hit me that I should use it as a little trash can on my vanity. It’s pretty and helps keep all the q-tips cleaned up and out of sight.
I am OBSESSED with my Muji drawers! (Link) I have stuffed them with different combinations of products, but what I have now is by far my favorite. I house all of my palettes in these drawers for a few reasons. First, I tend to forget about my palettes. So having them in these drawers, right in front of my face, makes me grab for them more. Second, there was no way that I could fit most of these palettes into the large drawer. However, I can easily fit a few palettes into each of the five drawers and have them within arms reach while getting ready.
I also have my 24 count lipstick holder. Another Amazon find (Link) that helps control the madness that is my lip product collection. There is no rhyme or reason to why I have these particular products out, I just do. This little section is by far my favorite from the whole vanity. It’s so organized looking and I love the look that acrylic cases give. It’s also where I keep the cherry blossom box that my sister bought my in Japan.
First we have the far left section of the drawer, face products. I’m not going to go through everything because that would take forever. But as you can see we have blushes, foundations, highlighters, bronzers, primers, and concealers. I love these plastic dividers. I had three of them to fit in this drawer but they all wouldn’t fit without cutting one. No thanks! I do like how I set up the middle section to make up for the lack of divider. I can’t find a link to these dividers on the Ikea site anymore. If you search Amazon, you can find a lot of drawer organizers that are just as amazing.
Here we have the middle section. I have all my little tools like tweezers and sharpener, my eyebrow must-haves, q-tips, my mascaras, all my eye pencils and lip liners, and my most used single eye shadows. This section is what is in front of me when I’m sitting at my vanity. It was the last part that I threw together but is filled with my most used products.
Last and certainly not least, my lip products! Again, this isn’t completely how I would want it forever but it works for now. I hope to get an Alex 9-drawer set here in the next few months that will help me organize my makeup better. In the far right section there are tons of lip glosses that never get used simply because I never see them. I want a way to display them so I can use them more. I also don’t really like how I randomly have eyeshadows in this section, but there was no where else for them to go.
So here it is! My vanity set up. Like I said over and over again, this is an on going process and isn’t exactly how I would want to keep it. Plus lets be honest, I am going to keep on buying makeup so I will need to change this up again and again. I do love it though. This a great vanity and I look forward to getting up and doing my makeup everyday because of this little space I call mine.
